Why Self Care isn’t Selfish- Learning to love yourself again.

216

Self care isn’t selfish, it’s not you being greedy at all. I feel like there is a large part of society which has made self care a dirty word. This has to stop! If we don’t fill our own cup first and look after ourselves, we are no good to anyone else. It is like when you are on a plane and they say to put on your own oxygen mask before helping other people… Help yourself first.

There has been mentioning on Instagram about incorporating into your week a #selfcaresunday, but it can be any day of the week that works for you. I love this idea. One day, heck even half a day just for you. Not your family, your work, but you. By taking this time it gives you a reset, a mini break from the craziness. It allows a breather for you to become a better human. I know so many of us are really “busy”, wear it like a badge of honour. I will be writing more about this as this is something I feel really passionate about. But here is the hard truth, those emails you need to do, they will still be there, will it really make such a big difference that you spend more of YOUR vital time trying to get a few more emails answered? The answer should be NO. So often we give, give, give all our energy to our family, work, friends that we leave such little energy left for ourselves and I think it is a disservice to ourselves and to everyone else if we do not have enough energy to support yourself.

A Sunday well spent, brings a week of content…

Sleep in and when you wake up spend 30 mins with a cup of tea and a book in bed.
Paint your toenails.
Actually you can do that before you go to sleep too.
Find a furry friend to walk, cuddle or hang out with.
Ring a friend and go out for brunch, who doesn’t love brunch?
Have a nap.
Have a self date- where do you want to go?
Go outside and sit in the sun and put on some chilled tunes, or if it’s peaceful listen to the nature sounds.
Just sit and have a cup of tea and take some deep breaths.
Meal prep- for me this is self care as it ensures I have healthy, tasty, grab-and-go meals for the week ahead to help me stay on track.
Call a friend or better yet catch up with a friend for a coffee or brunch.
Move your body, go for a walk, or somewhere new like a park or the beach.
Be kind to yourself, sit and think about what you need, and go with it.
Pick a nice relaxing Yoga YouTube or routine and grab your mat and put some chilled tunes on and stretch out, but again really be present.
Put on a really funny movie, Bridesmaids anyone?
Say “no” to extra obligations that could distract you from your vital “Self care” time.
Have a dance in your lounge room, I love 80’s dance music.
Exfoliate your face and put on a face mask.
Give yourself a foot rub.

You are absolutely right! Self-care is so important, but I think also very underrated, because people don´t pay attention to fall in love with their body and soul :(. I´m personally trying to take care of myself anytime possible 🙂 Also thanks for great tips, I think I will paint my nails tonight, while watching film and drinking tea, haha 😀 😀
